FUNDRAISING On Friday 4th May I attended a ceremony which was the result of a project I was first involved with in 2007. The New Park Community and Arts Association was formed in 1974 when a group of committed volunteers saved an old Victorian school building in Chichester from demolition. Since this time a fabulous cinema, award winning Judo club and some 60 other community groups have come to call New Park Centre home.

With ambitious plans to extended and refurbish the facilities, in 2007 I was commissioned to conduct a Feasibility Study, to determine the need for extra space at the Centre and it's potential to be sustainable once enlarged. Having demonstrated clearly that this was the case, Chichester District Council allocated almost £1million towards the project. This provided a great basis on which to build a fundraising campaign. Along with Sarah Mansell, a fellow professional in the field we embarked on raising a further million pouns, including substantial grants from Sport England and the F.G.Woodger Trust.

On Friday the team behind the project were reunited to celebrate the "topping out" of the new Dojo, Community Hall and Community Information Centre under construction on the site. Due to open in September it is a fantastic addition to community facilities in Chichester and bookings for the exciting new space are already being taken.

It is so rewarding to see a project you've played an integral part in coming to life - it makes the hours of consultation, report and application writing worth while. I look forward to celebrating the opening in September and watching the first throw in the new Dojo. For further details visit
