Well what a Summer it has been! Hard to believe anyone in the country hasn't been touched by some aspect of the events of Summer 2012 - whether it be the Diamond Jubilee, London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games or the Mayor of London's Parade.

I certainly feel extremely privileged to have played a part in it. Being a Games Maker was a life changing experience for me - I've met complete strangers who have become friends; I've started a new venture in my business and I've witnessed a public outpouring of patriotism making me proud of my fellow Britons AND maybe the most remarkable of all felt a tangible change in attitude to disability which can only make us all better people.

Hard to imagine but this time last week I was collecting my Paralympics uniform and accreditation en route to my final Olympic shift. During the previous 3 weeks I'd spent 15 days as a Games Maker as part of the Media and PR Team based in the Main Press Centre at the Olympic Park in Stratford. Our role was to provide a proactive and reactive news service for the 6,000 journalists based at the Centre. Specifically the Games Makers were the first port of call in responding to questions and interview requests, via a face-to-face help desk, press office email or telephone.

Up at the crack of dawn this monring as I'd volunteered to be a Marshal for the Torch Relay's journey through Petersfield. My thinking being it would kick start my Games Maker expereince. And inspite of the rain and Novemebr rather than July temperatures the crowds turned out to wave and cheer with great enthusiasm.

It was my first taste of the excitement of London 2012 and how effectively it is ireally strating to captivate people from all round the country. The atmosphere built slowly but a good hour before the due arrival time people were coming out of their homes with brollies and picnic chairs to find the ebst location.

Sunday 24th June 2012 will be a date forever etched in my memory as it was the first time I walked onto the Olympic Park in Stratford, the home of London 2012.

I remember the area clearly as a child. Having Grandparents that lived close by I was used to seeing a wasteland strewn with old gas terminals and precious little else. Now it is transformed into a mecca for sport. Each venue on the Park has its own unique and dynamic architecture, be it the Aquatics Centre, the Velodrome or the magnificent Olympic Stadium itself.

FUNDRAISING On Friday 4th May I attended a ceremony which was the result of a project I was first involved with in 2007. The New Park Community and Arts Association was formed in 1974 when a group of committed volunteers saved an old Victorian school building in Chichester from demolition. Since this time a fabulous cinema, award winning Judo club and some 60 other community groups have come to call New Park Centre home.
